The Dispersion
The Lost

A stained-glass window of a snowy cemetery under a blue sky and a yellow star, namely the “Star of Mary”. Tombstones are covered in snow, some with black crosses and red and pink flowers, commemorating the Acadians lost during the deportation. – This stained-glass window commemorates the thousands of Acadians who lost their lives at sea from disease or hunger during the deportation (1755–1763), during which 10,000 people were displaced. A snowy cemetery under a blue sky and a yellow star, namely the “Star of Mary”, symbolizes the hope persisting despite the injustice and the loss. Snowy tombstones, marked with black crosses and wearing red and pink flowers, pepper the wintery landscape. The inscription “Les Disparus” (The Lost) at the bottom highlights the powerful reminder of those who never came back.
