The Deportation
The Separation

A stained-glass window depicting Acadian families’ tearful goodbyes before being forced onto boats. – The stained-glass window “La Séparation” (The Separation) shows the Acadian families’ haunting goodbyes before their forced boarding onto English boats. In the centre, a religious man blesses a miscellaneous group; they express their sadness by embracing each other and making gestures of despair when faced with the imminent separation, which is symbolized by a boat at the top of the window. Dominated by blue, red and white, the stylized, metaphorical visuals beautifully capture this painful, key moment of the Deportation.
